First day of classes?

ok, so I haven't been in school since mid December, so three full months and today was the start of classes. So not officially for me, because I just attended a backup class at FLACSO, the university that's hosting us and hooking us up with classes at UBA and UCA, the direct enrollment schools. So the classes at FLACSO are with other CIEE students from the U.S. and are not as challenging as the direct enrollment classes. Nonetheless, I decided to attend one of the classes that I really won't end up taking just because it interested me and I need to get back into the swing of things and get used to going to classes.

I started off the day getting a normal amount of sleep, you know, more than 5 hours. I got about 10 or 11, I'm not certain because my clock on my cell is messed up, an hour behind, which I don't know how it happened because we didn't have a time change here in Buenos Aires yet. So I got ready and had a little breakfast, by that time, Rosi, my homestay mom, picked up her grandkid, Gonzalo, from preschool. He's such a cutie, I can't really get over it! We sat around and watched Spongebob in Spanish, he looked amused at how much I laughed at the show. But hey, it's even funnier in Spanish!

Oh, and I also got to finally make my salsa. Rosi had bought me some jalapeños and I got to do it all by myself. Turns out it was quite spicy, I really did underestimate those Argentine jalapeños, but they could've been imported, next time I'll read the bag.

Made my sandwich and was off to FLACSO. The class, on Gender, Body, and Sexuality, was quite good, I needed something intellectually stimulating, I miss intelligent conversation, did I mention that already? Well yes, it was cool, half the class period was an intro to the course and then the other half was more hands on. We looked at a few comics on gender as well as an advertisement for a class on how to teach men to be independent. It was really great, plus I got to know some more porteño slang and insults, pretty useful stuff. But still, some of the other gender classes at UBA are more specific and past introduction level, which interests me more. I really want to either take the class on Pregnancy or the other on Domestic Violence.

Class finished and I went upstairs to the computer lab to check my email and figure out where I need to go tomorrow for my first ever direct enrollment class. I ran into Katy, Kris, and Trish and we decided to go back to school shopping and check out this chinese take out place. So turns out it was like a chinese food stand inside a market, but it was AMAZING! I had my first taste of rice since I've been here, and I had whole serving of stir fry veggies and dumplings! So great! All for 6 pesos (2 dollars). It was a bit ridiculous.

Off to school shopping, which I'm glad I did because I found these vendors a block away from the store who were selling all kinds of chiles as well as menudo mix and hominy! It was so great! Pratically all I need for menudo or posole or MORE SALSA! I'm so happy!
